Mark D. Brandenburg earned his B.A. degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1999, where he majored in Psychology and minored in Business. Following graduation, he lived in New York City and Baltimore, where he worked in the advertising industry for clients such as Procter & Gamble, Philips, and BlueCross BlueShield. He then returned to his native Atlanta to attend law school.

Mr. Brandenburg earned his J.D. degree from Emory University School of Law in 2005. As a member of the Emory Moot Court Society, he received the prestigious Arthur K. Bolton Best Brief Award and was inducted into the Order of Emory Advocates for demonstrating excellence and high honor.

Prior to joining Cohen & Caproni, Mr. Brandenburg worked for nearly five years as the law clerk and staff attorney for Judge Jeryl Debra Rosh in the DeKalb County Probate Court. He developed an expertise in probate law, which includes the probate of wills, administration of estates, year’s support, guardianships, and conservatorships.

Mr. Brandenburg’s practice focuses primarily on estate planning and administration. This includes the use of wills, revocable living trusts, life insurance trusts, gifting trusts, special needs trusts, lifetime gifting programs and other tools and techniques designed to limit exposure to estate tax and estate litigation. Mr. Brandenburg also counsels clients with regard to adult guardianships, Medicaid planning, and IRS controversies. He further represents businesses and their owners concerning various aspects of the business, such as structural matters, mergers, acquisitions, dispositions and other tax planning.

Mr. Brandenburg has spoken to professional groups such as the Atlanta Bar Estate Planning and Probate Section and the DeKalb Estate Planning Council. His insight on Georgia law regarding guardianships and wills has appeared on ClarkHoward.com.

Mr. Brandenburg is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Atlanta Bar Association, the Atlanta Bar Estate Planning and Probate Section, and the DeKalb Bar Association. He has been admitted to the Supreme Court of Georgia and the United States Tax Court. He lives in Sandy Springs with his wife and daughter.
